About this calculator

What it does

Given a solar panel's datasheet values and your solar generator's MPPT input limits, this tool enumerates every series × parallel combination, filters out those that violate voltage, current, or start-voltage limits, and ranks the survivors by total power and headroom.

Formulas

  • cold_Voc = Voc × (1 + tempCoef% × (T_min − 25°C))
  • string_Vmp = series × Vmp
  • string_cold_Voc = series × cold_Voc
  • total_Isc = parallel × Isc
  • total_W = series × parallel × W_panel

Validity rules

  • string_cold_Voc ≤ MPPT max PV voltage (hard limit)
  • total_Isc ≤ MPPT max PV current (hard limit)
  • string_Vmp ≥ MPPT minimum start voltage
  • total_W ≤ MPPT max PV power (soft — over-paneling flagged but allowed; MPPT clips)

Assumptions & caveats

  • STC values are used for power; real-world output is typically 70–85% of STC.
  • Voltage drop from wiring is not modeled. For long runs, add 3–5% margin.
  • Voc temperature coefficient defaults to −0.29 %/°C — check your datasheet.
  • Always verify recommended wiring against your generator's manual before connecting.
